As the school counselor, my job is to assist students, teachers, and parents and guardians in helping each student achieve success.\u00a0 The school counseling program focuses on academic achievement, social\/emotional and career development.<\/p>\n<p>phone: (904) 547-3787<\/p>\n<p>email:\u00a0 Keri.Cortez@stjohns.k12.fl.us<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">What does the School Counselor do?<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Sees individual students in distress or in crisis, with follow-up as needed<\/li>\n<li>Conducts guidance groups and \u201clunch bunches\u201d for children with particular needs (social skills, anger, family changes..)<\/li>\n<li>Teaches\u00a0 k-5 class guidance lessons on life skills, our district character counts initiative, and various topics including topics such as bullying, understanding feelings, and social skills.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct gifted screeners<\/li>\n<li>Monitor attendance and hold truancy meetings<\/li>\n<li>Serves as a liaison between the school and outside agencies to best assist our families.<\/li>\n<li>Serves as a resource to teachers, staff, and PARENTS\/GUARDIANS!<\/li>\n<li>School Coordinator for:\u00a0 ESOL services (English Language Learners), 504 plans for disabled students,\u00a0Mentor Services for our students, Social Services for Needy Families.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #3366ff\">Helpful Links:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/kidshealth.org\/\">http:\/\/kidshealth.org<\/a>\u00a0 Nemours Foundations site with up-to-date info on children\u2019s health and emotional concerns.<\/li>\n<li><em>CareConnect-24\/7 Crisis Support Line\u00a0 Text: CARE4U to 741741 (confidential crisis support by text)<a href=\"https:\/\/www.careconnectplus.com\/\">https:\/\/www.careconnectplus.com\/ <\/a><\/em><em>United Way of St. Johns County: call \u201c211\u201d to help you with home resources and local services that are here to assist our families in need<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WELCOME WILDCATS!
